Patricia de Lille, President of the Independent Democrats and Executive Mayor of Cape Town, has endorsed Lindiwe Mazibuko MP as her preferred candidate in the Democratic Alliance (DA) Parliamentary Caucus Election, scheduled for October 27, 2011.
The text of her letter of endorsement follows below:
"Dear colleagues,
I believe that Lindiwe Mazibuko should be the next leader of the party in Parliament. The team that Lindiwe leads represents what is best about our party. The combination of Lindiwe, Dr. Wilmot James and Watty Watson is a testament to the kind of South Africa we are trying to build.
The preamble of our constitution, the dignity of which we have all fought so hard to preserve, envisions a country of individuals united in their diversity. It is a vision of a South Africa that sees the strength in each person and their pasts and combines them to fashion a new path forward.
We all come from different political backgrounds but we are together today because of a common belief in something greater. We are in the DA because of the aspiration of the people we want to be and the country we want to become.
You are faced with the opportunity to move our party forward. In so doing, we can move our country forward to that place we know it can reach. In helping our party to grow at unprecedented levels in the Local Government Elections, Lindiwe has proved herself an exceptional leader and a formidable opponent of the ANC.
I believe that she is the best person to take our party forward in Parliament. In this historic moment, she is the best person for South Africa.
Warm regards,
Patricia de Lille
President of the Independent Democrats
Executive Mayor of Cape Town"
